I remember the first class I taught Ben at Melbourne uni. He was the only student capable of pronouncing correctly my name: Hernán. We immediately connected, not because the simple thing of my name but because he was one of the few students able to understand my Argentinian idiosyncrasies. Ben could travel through both languages. But most importantly, Ben was a good guy: funny, humble, smart, respectful of others. Later Ben took another course with me and also help me transcribing interviews from a big research project I had 4 years ago. Today, while I was revisiting papers from that project, I saw the receipts with Ben's name I handed to the uni for him to be paid. I immediately smiled. I remember Ben. A genuinely good guy. I decided to look up him. I found this blog. I am devastated to found out about Ben passing away. I can't believe it. I am utterly sad. I want to express my deepest condolences to Ben's family. It is a terrible loss. Hernán Cuervo
Agree with Jill - this is awesome, but so cruel at the same time. You guys aren't cruel by any stretch, but the reality that I can't grab him and give him a hug is. He feels soo close here. Thanks.
